Guwahati (Assam) [India], January 1 (ANI): After the unrest in Bangladesh, 20 to 30 infiltrators are being detected in Assam every day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday terming the situation “worrying”.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Mini Inter State Bus Terminus at Khanapara, Assam CM said that he has also discussed the infiltration issue with his counterparts from various northeastern states and the West Bengal government.
“We have seen a huge increase in infiltration in Assam and India. 2 days ago, I also discussed this with my counterparts from various northeastern states and the West Bengal government. Assam police is detecting 20 to 30 infiltrators every day and the same number of infiltrators are being seen in Tripura. After the unrest in Bangladesh, the textile industry collapsed there. So workers working in the textile industry in Bangladesh are coming to India and many textile factory owners in our country are also encouraging them. I have also discussed this issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in my last meeting. So this is a very worrying issue for us because we have never detected so many infiltrators before,” Assam CM said.
Since the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August last year, attacks targeting minorities, primarily Hindus, have increased in Bangladesh.
He further highlighted the “jihadi threat” in the state and said that the Assam Police has busted a major module and have arrested 23 people.
“As far as the jihadi threat is concerned. Recently we have busted a major module, and we have arrested 23 people. We have seized many weapons. So Assam Police is aware of the threat posed by Jihadi elements across the border,” he added.
Regarding the Bangladeshi Hindus coming to India, the Assam CM Sarma said that they should not “encourage them to come to India.”
“I think the numbers are very less and whoever wanted to come would have come 40 years ago… I think we should not encourage them to come to India. The Prime Minister is continuously working to provide security and create a security situation in Bangladesh and the Hindu people of Bangladesh are also working very maturely and we have not seen any Hindu Bangladeshi in Assam in the last five months,” Assam CM said.
Earlier, CM Sarma extended New Year wishes and said that India will prosper, be stronger, and shine in the world in 2025.
“Happy New Year. I’d like to convey my best wishes to every citizen of India for the year 2025… This year will lay a solid foundation for Viksit Bharat. This year, India will prosper, be stronger, and shine in the world,” he said.
India welcomed the year 2025 with celebrations across the country, as people in various cities marked the occasion with joy and enthusiasm. (ANI)
