Jaipur, (Rajasthan) [India], October 11 (ANI): Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot asserted on Friday that the party will go ‘deep’ into the matter and find out the reason for the party’s loss in Haryana.
Speaking to ANI on the results of the Haryana assembly elections, Congress leader Gehlot said, “…We will go deep into this matter and find out what really happened. The country and the world were seeing that Congress was winning. There was no news of defeat from anywhere, be it exit polls or media… These results were shocking, so it is important to get to the bottom of it… We have also complained to the Election Commission about the EVM machine… “
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to form the government for the third consecutive term in Haryana after the party secured 48 seats in the Haryana assembly elections. This is the party’s biggest victory in assembly polls in the state. The Congress won 37 seats while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won two seats. Independents won three seats.
Ashok Gehlot further said that for the first time the results were ‘reversed’, adding that the BJP leaders were also talking about a Congress’ victory.
“For the first time in elections, we are seeing that such situations arose and the results were reversed… Actually, many BJP leaders were also saying that Congress was winning… These are all things, but I believe that until you get to the bottom of this matter, it is not right to say anything about it,” Gehlot added.
On Congress party’s review meeting over Haryana election results, former Rajasthan CM said, “Postmortem is being done. A meeting was held yesterday, and Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge decided that a platform will be set up that all our candidates – both winning and losing and leaders of the state will delve deep and assess what actually happened.”
Ashok Gehlot also exuded confidence in performing well in the upcoming by polls in the Rajasthan.
“I think we will win the by-elections because the schemes of our government are being adopted by states across the country…Time will tell what situation is formed in the time to come, but I think BJP thinks it is revived after Haryana. But that is not the case, I don’t think an atmosphere will be created,” he stated. (ANI)
