Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], December 9 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Jitu Patwari on Monday claimed that a rape incident occurred every 17 minutes in the state and it was the failure of the state government.
Patwari also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders asking that there were hundreds of cases related to rape incident in the state, why do only the names of BJP leaders come up in those cases.
The congress leader told reporters, “Today, it is in the headlines of newspapers that a BJP leader in Vidisha Yogendra Singh Solanki has raped a woman. I am repeatedly saying that in Madhya Pradesh, a rape takes place every 17 minutes, which means ultimately, there is anarchy. It is the failure of the state government.”
Hitting out at Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, he said that CM Yadav was also the Home Minister, yet no efforts were being made to stop these incidents in the state.
“10 days ago in Balghat, a woman teacher was raped by a BJP leader. In October this year, an incident that happened with the women who were with the army soldiers in Mhow, relatives of BJP leaders were involved in it. In Datia also, a BJP leader, along with some other people, assaulted two women and gang raped of them. Senior BJP leader from that region Narottam Mishra was left speechless,” Patwari said.
Additionally, he mentioned incidents that a 28-year-old woman was raped in Jabalpur on the pretext of getting a job in which an FIR was registered against BJP leader Shashikant Soni. Similarly, names of BJP came to fore in rape cases in Betul, Niwari, Mandsaur and Hoshangabad districts.
“There are hundreds of such cases (related to rape) in the state, why do only names of BJP leaders come up in these cases. It is a question. As I said, thousands of cases get suppressed under political pressure. A case of rape on the footpath also came to the fore in the CM’s home district Ujjain. In many districts in the state, one rape is happening every 17 minutes. But CM Mohan Yadav is silent. I request the state government to take cognizance into the matter,” the Congress leader added.
He further alleged that the BJP government did not take legal action in any such incident, instead they started protecting them. Even in the recent case of Vidisha, there must be some leaders who were initiated in protecting him. (ANI)
