New Delhi [India], February 6 (ANI): CPI member of Parliament P Sandosh Kumar has criticized the alleged ill treatment of indians who were recently depported from the US terming it a violation of humanitarian rights. Kumar, along with 13 other Rajya Sabha members, had served a notice under Rule 267 to suspend the day’s business in order to address this issue of great concern.
“This shows the inhuman attitude of the Trump administration,” Kumar said. “But what concerns us more is the way these people were transported to India. They all were handcuffed, and all genuine humanitarian rights were denied.”
Kumar raised questions over the nature of the deportation, stating, “There are diplomatic ties with India and the US. Why should our people be transported back to India like this? There are norms and practices, no?”
His remarks come after reports emerged of more than 100 Indian nationals being deported back to India under harsh conditions, with their hands and feet shackled, prompting outrage across various political parties. The incident has become a point of contention, with several lawmakers demanding the government take immediate action.
The MP emphasized the diplomatic aspect, stating that such actions put strain on the relations between the two countries. “Why is the PM silent? Why is the Ministry of External Affairs silent?” Kumar questioned, highlighting the lack of response from the government.
He added, “We are demanding a discussion on this in Parliament. We need to address this issue and ensure that no Indian national is subjected to such treatment again.”
Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday launched a sharp criticism at the Central government over the recent deportation of over 100 Indian nationals who were allegedly living illegally in the United States.
In a video shared by All India Congress Committee, Vadra said, “A lot of things were said that President Trump and PM Modi are very good friends. Why did PM Modi let this happen?”
She further questioned the manner in which the deportation happened and asserted that India could have sent its own aircraft to bring the deportees back to the country.
“Couldn’t we have sent our own aircraft to bring them back? Is this how humans are behaved with? That they are sent back handcuffed and shackled?… EAM and PM should answer,” the Congress MP said. (ANI)
