Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 27 (ANI): Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has petitioned the state government to provide DAP (Diammonium phosphate) fertiliser to the farmers so that there will be a good yield of wheat, mustard and pulses crops in the state.
Expressing concern for farmers, Singh shared a video on his official X handle and wrote, “MP farmers are facing a new problem every day. First, they did not get the fair price for Soybean crop and now due to the mismanagement of the government, they are facing the unavailability of DAP fertilisers. Our demand is that the government should provide DAP to the farmers so that there should be a good yield of wheat, mustard and pulses etc.”
The Congress leader further claimed that there was always a shortage of fertilisers at the time of sowing in the state.
“There is always a shortage of fertilisers at the time of sowing in Madhya Pradesh. This happens because most of the cooperative societies in the state have become overdue and the entire distribution of fertilisers which was done through cooperative societies has now been given to the private sector. Mostly black marketing is happening there. It is because the Food Department of Madhya Pradesh is not restraining it. The administration takes its share in it and sits idle” Singh said in the video.
He also said that there was a need for about 8 lakh metric tons of DAP in the state but only 1.25 lakh metric tons could be made available and there was a need to change the system.
“There is a need of about 8 lakh metric tons of DAP in the state but only 1.25 lakh metric tons could be made available. Till now, institutions have been supplying 70 percent of the fertilisers but even in that only 15 percent fertiliser has been available. I have always demanded that the distribution of fertilisers should be done through cooperatives and the government system. Only then will we be able to distribute fertilisers honestly because the warehouses of cooperative societies have been near every village, so there is a need to change the system,” he concluded.
