New Delhi [India], November 29 (ANI): After both houses of the Parliament were adjourned till December 2 as proceedings were stalled for the fourth consecutive day, Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram on Friday said that he is hoping that the government will allow the opposition to raise issues of importance.
Earlier today, the Parliament was adjourned till December 2 (Monday), failing to conduct substantial business amid continuous sloganeering by opposition MPs in both Houses for the fourth straight day.
“I hope the government is large-hearted and allows the opposition the space to raise issues of importance. It’s incumbent that the government finds a way in which the opposition can have its say and the government can have its way. The government is in a position to give and the government must give…” Chidambaram told ANI.
Parliament proceedings have been stalled since the beginning of the Winter Session amid protests by opposition parties over the Adani issue and violence in Manipur and Sambhal.
Before adjourning, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar slammed the Opposition.
“This cannot be appreciated. We have become a laughing stock, and parliament disruptions are in public distaste. We are creating a very bad precedent. Our actions are not public-centric. We are getting into irrelevance. Rule 267 is being weaponised as a tool of disruption, the Rajya Sabha Chairman said.
The Chairman expressed his deep anguish and profound regret at the disruption in the normal business of the House.
Opposition members have been continuously pushing to have a discussion on the floor on the Adani issue, Sambhal violence and the Manipur situation, raising slogans in the Parliament.
The first session of the winter Parliament commenced on November 25, with both Houses getting adjourned fairly early due to disruptions. The winter session will go on till December 20.
Meanwhile, Congress MP also reacted on the Sambhal issue and said that agitation about worship places should be avoided.
He said, “We should not agitate about places of worship. Because, as the RSS chief said, one should not look for Shivalingams under every mosque. I hope people take his advice and take his advice seriously. If everyone wants to go back to the root of places of worship, then even the established Hindu places of worship can have a history that can be disputed… There will be no end to this revision of history. I think we should let the places of worship be as they are…” (ANI)
