“Divyang a source of inspiration for us”: Uttarakhand CM – World News Network

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], December 3 (ANI): On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities being celebrated on Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honoured the people with varying disabilities and said that Divyang people are “a source of inspiration for us.”
The Chief Minister attended a program organised at Subhash Road in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, to mark the event.
CM Dhami highlighted the government’s commitment to making places as accessible as possible for people, where the government has added provisions in planning any building, hospital, or bus stop.
“When we build a hospital, a bus station or a public building, we take special care to ensure that our disabled brothers and sisters do not face any inconvenience in coming there. We have made such provision in all the types of planning that we are going to do so that construction work should be done according to the convenience of all of you, brothers and sisters, and our government to ensure the overall development of persons with disabilities,” CM Dhami said during the program.
Highlighting various state government initiatives, he shared that the government currently provides five different types of pensions to persons with disabilities, benefiting around one lakh individuals.
“Many schemes are being implemented within the state. Currently, our government is giving five different types of pensions to persons with disabilities in different categories, through which about one lakh people are benefitting,” he said.
Specifying the pensions for children, he added, “A pension of fifteen hundred rupees per month and a maintenance grant of seven hundred rupees per month is being given to differently-abled children from birth to eighteen years of birth.
On giving pension in case of accidents during working at an agricultural field, “A pension of twelve hundred rupees per month is being given in case of accident due to agricultural work in rural areas.”
Also highlighting a provision to give pension to people with dwarfism, the CM said, “Provision has been made to grant pension of twelve hundred rupees per month to persons below 4 feet in height, even if one is over twenty-one years old.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his government’s dedication to upholding the honour and self-respect of persons with disabilities across India on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In a post on X, PM Modi said that the policies and decisions they made for persons with disabilities in the last 10 years are direct proof of their commitment.
“Our government is committed to upholding the honour and self-respect of our Divyang brothers and sisters across the country. The policies and decisions we have made for them in the last 10 years are direct proof of this,” he wrote on X. (ANI)
