New Delhi [India], January 18 (ANI): As the Sealdah Court is set to announce its verdict in the RG Kar rape-murder case today, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla said the public and protesting doctors would decide if ‘justice had been served’.
“The verdict will come today, but, the public and the protesting doctors will decide whether justice was served or not. It was their sense and feeling that more than one person was involved in the case.
He alleged that evidence was destroyed, and the TMC government prioritized protecting and promoting the hospital principal instead of ensuring justice for the victim.
“The way the evidence was destroyed, the way the TMC government tried to immediately protect and promote the Principal of the hospital, the attitude of the government and the police towards the victim…,” he said.
Poonawalla criticized the government’s attitude, claiming its focus was on shielding the accused rather than punishing them. He also accused party leaders of threatening protesting doctors and pointed out that a TMC MP resigned, stating that Mamata Banerjee’s government had failed.
“It seems that the priority of the TMC government was not to get justice for the victim but to save the rapist… Many leaders of the party used threatening words against the protesting doctor. One of their MPs also resigned saying that Mamata Banerjee’s government has failed. Justice will be done only when the victim’s parents feel that all the criminals behind this act have been punished and not protected by Mamata Banerjee,” he said.
The RG Kar rape-murder case has drawn widespread attention, with public outrage fueling demands for strict punishment. The incident, which shocked West Bengal, has been a focal point of political and social discourse.
The case, which involves the rape and murder of a trainee doctor whose body was found on August 9 in the hospital’s seminar room, sparked widespread protests. After the incident, the main accused Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, was arrested in connection with the crime. (ANI)
